Forde Abbey - Historical Houses

Forde Abbey - Historical Houses

Distance 9.42 miles (15.07 km)
Founded in 1146, Forde Abbey was one of the most significant Cistercian monasteries in England during the four centuries that separated the reign of King Stephen from the Reformation. The buildings seen today were all in existence in the Middle Ages. They formed the Abbot's and monks' quarters, their kitchen, refectories, and their chapter house. The abbey church has gone, together with the guest wing and three sides of the cloisters. While the final years of so many English monasteries are remembered for their feebleness and decadence, Forde ended in a blaze of glory. Thomas Chard, the last of the thirty-two abbots, devoted much of his time and energy to repairing and reconstructing the fabric of the Abbey building.

Long Sutton Golf Club - Long Sutton - Golf

Distance 9.84 miles (15.74 km)
LONG SUTTON is a privately owned golf course set in 118 acres of Somerset. The gently rolling landscape, with wonderful views over the Kingsmoor levels, has immense appeal to the seasoned golfer and the novice alike. The long, undulating fairways and the beautifully maintained greens of this parkland course provide the greatest pleasure to golfers of all standards. The settings and conditions, however, tend to belie the challenge presented by some tricky par 3s and four demanding par 5s. Long irons are always put to the test and scoring well can prove a little difficult! All this has been carefully integrated around a striking clubhouse which is open to the public 7 days a week.
