As a university we are immensely proud of our academic achievements but there is a great deal more to us. We are a modern new university, one with a long history and have quickly become one of Scotland's leading universities, highly ranked for our academic performance and with a talented group of students and academics who make us the success we are.

Dundee, on the banks of the River Tay, is Scotland's fourth largest city. Dundee has been famous for its marmalade since the 19th century and the famous comics 'Beano' and 'Dandy' are both published here. Dundee University was established in 1881 while Dundee's Royal charter was granted in the 12th century when the city also had a monstery and castle (the site on Castlehill is marked by a plaque commemorating William Wallace who started the Scottish rebellion against the English). Cowgate Port is the only part of the old town walls still remaining.

Dundee Football Club, founded in 1893, is a professional football (soccer) team based in the city of Dundee, Scotland. In May 2005, Dundee FC was relegated from the Scottish Premier League, the top league of Scottish football. They are currently managed by Alan Kernaghan, having sacked Jim Duffy on the 25th of August 2005. Dundee play their home games at Dens Park. Unusually for a city of its size, Dundee supports two top class professional football teams, Dundee FC and Dundee United FC. The two teams are fierce rivals, despite having grounds that are within a few hundred yards of each other. Matches between the teams hold the British record for 'closest away fixture'.

Dundee United Football Club is a Scottish football club based in the city of Dundee. Officially they are nicknamed The Terrors with the supporters known as The Arabs, though the latter term has been applied equally, if not more, to the club in recent times via the sporting media. Occasionally, The Tangerines is another term used to describe the club. Their playing kit is distinct; tangerine in colour, first used when played under the Dallas Tornado moniker in the North American Soccer League of 1967. In European competition, they are Scotland's fourth most succesful team, competing 22 seasons in Europe, in a total of 104 European matches (5 more than Aberdeen F.C.) as of August, 2005.
