Huddersfield (Fixby) Golf Club - Huddersfield - Golf

Distance 0.72 miles (1.15 km)
Huddersfield Golf Club was formed following a meeting held in Huddersfield's George Hotel on December 21st 1891. The course was laid out on the magnificent parkland turf of Fixby Park with the assistance of the owners, the Clarke Thornhill family. The first captain was Harry Huth, and the first president, The Earl of Dartmouth. From the long doglegged 475 yard par 4 opening hole the course is a true test of golf. Mastery of every club in the bag is necessary to return a good score. The first nine are relatively flat but the second half is undulating, and at its highest on the 18th fairway. The clubhouse boasts an excellent choice of three bars, including the recently completed Centenary Hall, which can accommodate up to 150 people in style.

We provide full-time advanced courses (A-level and Applied GCE) for students aged 16-19. Our excellent examination results are outstanding for a college of our type, placing us near the top of many A-level performance tables and first in the 'Sunday Times Parent Power' top 50 sixth-form colleges table for 2009. In October 2004 we were re-named a Beacon college and our 2007 Ofsted inspection report remarked that "The quality of provision is outstanding and has improved further on the high standards reported in the 2004 inspection.
