Along with the towns two castles, Sherborne Abbey is one of the main attractions to the historic market town of Sherborne. It is a magnificent building, with around thirteen hundred years of history, and well worth a visit. There is no admission charge but a donation is recommended. Each year there is also the Sherborne Abbey Festival, the programme of events for which has proved to be a great success. Sherborne Abbey is one of only 18 churches awarded 5 stars in Simon Jenkins' England's Thousand Best Churches. He writes " I would pit Sherborne's roof against any contemporary work of the Italian Renaissance".
