After fantastic accommodation in Edinburgh and Northumberland we were really looking forward to spending the last two days of our honeymoon in York. But this 'apartment' is not as described and it ruined our stay. 'Ruby Apartment' is in fact a terraced house on a busy main road and is in a generally grubby state. It is neither modern nor spacious which is what we were expecting. It is completely unsuitable for families with young children as the staircase is steep with no safety bannister, the bedrooms open straight onto the stairs and the bathroom is downstairs. We also had to replace the landing lightbulb as soon as we arrived as the bulb had gone along with two more in the kitchen. There was a very strong smell of cigarette smoke throughout the house and on all our bedding. The plug in air freshener which had been left on failed to mask the musty, smoky odour and made everywhere smell even worse. Attention to detail is poor with cobwebs everywhere, dusty towel rails, dirty carpets and chipped, peeling paintwork. We could not even use the kitchen as the cooker was filthy and the wooden worksurface was mouldy and ringstained There was no refreshments pack or coffee maker as advertised. No blinds in kitchen or bathroom and broken blind in lounge meant we had no privacy as passers by could see straight into the living room as the front door opens straight onto the pavement. The bedoom mattress is very uncomfortable, the windows aren't double glazed so it is very noisy at night and the beds 'judder' when lorries go past!. It is not a five minute walk into town but takes more like 20 minutes, 25 if you go along the river so the house is not as centrally located as we were expecting. As we have got a baby this was really inconvenient and hampered our sightseeing. There were no keys to window locks so we couldn't secure our stuff when ww weren't there and the landlady came into the house without our knowledge when we were out which was a real intrusion. - Kim , York , United Kingdom
